Instagram has unveiled several exciting additions to its Stories feature, aiming to provide users with more interactive ways to share music, photos, and videos.
One of the most intriguing new features is "Reveal," which adds a layer of mystery to story posts by blurring their contents. Viewers can only unveil the post by directly messaging the person who shared it.
Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, emphasized the growing significance of direct messages on the platform, with stories and DMs driving most of Instagram's growth.
Requiring a DM to access content represents the next stage of engagement evolution and is expected to be utilized by creators to enhance their stories' engagement levels.
Another noteworthy addition is "Frames," which applies a Polaroid overlay to images initially presented in grayscale.
Users can simulate the experience of revealing a photo by shaking their phone, reminiscent of handling actual Polaroid pictures.
Although shaking Polaroids is not recommended, Instagram's Frames feature adds a playful twist to the storytelling process.
The feature was initially introduced during Coachella in April, enhancing user creativity during events and gatherings.
In addition, Instagram is rolling out a music-based template feature called "Add Yours Music," allowing users to share songs to their stories using prompts such as "favourite song on X album" or "If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life."
This feature builds upon the existing stories prompt template for photos, offering users more options for personal expression and engagement.
