The Ogun Police Command has successfully rescued three victims who had been kidnapped and eliminated two of their captors during a firefight at the gunmen's hideout in Ajebo, within the Owode-Egba Local Government Area of the state.
After the rescue, police recovered N1.2 million, an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, a cutlass, a chain and padlock, as well as mobile phones from the gang and their lair.
The Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit was deployed to the area and managed to rescue the victims just two days after their abduction by the armed assailants terrorizing the region. Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, verified the incident and praised the prompt and strategic response of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to the emergency call from that vicinity.
Ogunlowo assured that law enforcement is actively pursuing the remaining suspects and reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance approach towards kidnapping and other violent crimes in Ogun State.
In a statement released the previous day by the Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, the Police Command emphasized its dedication to ensuring residents' safety.
The statement mentioned, "On 16th July, 2025, a significant advancement was made in a kidnapping case. This incident involved the abduction of three individuals near Ajebo, under the Owode-Egba Division's jurisdiction.
Following careful monitoring, on 18th July, 2025, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit implemented intelligence surveillance and rescued the three victims unharmed around 2100hrs.
During the operation, the kidnappers engaged in a gunfight with the police team. In the exchange, two of the kidnappers were fatally injured while the others fled deeper into the forest with gunshot wounds.
Recovered items from the scene include: one AK-47 rifle (Breech No. 5005584) loaded with 139 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition; one magazine; one cutlass; a chain and padlock (presumed to have been used to restrain the victims); the sum of ₦1,200,035 (thought to be proceeds from crime); and mobile phones.”
