President Bola Tinubu has sent a message of support to Nigeria's Super Falcons, encouraging them to secure a record-setting 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title as they prepare to face the host nation, Morocco, in the final tonight at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
This message, conveyed through a personally signed statement on Saturday, highlights the nation's pride and steadfast backing for the team.
In his speech, Tinubu praised the Super Falcons for their "awe-inspiring" performances throughout the tournament and commended their display of pride, honor, and strength, both on and off the field, emphasizing their outstanding sportsmanship.
He specifically acknowledged their compassionate visit to the injured Gabriela Salgado of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, calling it an act that exemplifies the shared humanity, empathy, and sisterly love valued by Africans.
Tinubu pointed out the team’s impressive statistics, claiming that if "statistics alone win matches, you are already champions."
He highlighted their unbeaten streak in the group stages, victories in the knockout phases, and the fact that they conceded only one goal during the semi-finals. Additionally, he reminded the team of their flawless record in previous WAFCON finals, having won all nine of their past appearances.
To show the complete support of the Nigerian government and citizens, Tinubu announced the dispatch of a prominent presidential delegation to Rabat for the final to rally for the team’s success.
This delegation includes the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite; the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; and the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, among others.
The President also expressed gratitude to the families of the Super Falcons, their coaches, supporters in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, and the Nigerian Mission in Morocco for their unwavering support during the tournament.
To conclude his message with an inspiring call to action, Tinubu urged, “You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home. Your fellow countrymen and women, both young and old, are cheering for you.”
He expressed his eagerness to welcome the team, the coveted trophy, and officials back in Abuja after their triumphant return.
The nation stands united in prayer and hope for the Super Falcons to make history tonight and bring home the continental crown.
