Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has raised serious allegations against the Department of State Service. Kanu claims that the DSS has denied him access to visitors of his choosing, in clear defiance of a standing court order that granted him such privileges. This revelation emerged following a meeting between Kanu and his legal counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, held at the DSS facility in Abuja on Monday. According to a statement released by Ejiofor, Kanu's lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome, has initiated contempt proceedings against the Director General of the DSS, Yusuf Bichi, in response to these allegations. A statement issued by Ejiofor said Kanu’s lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome, has begun contempt proceedings against the DSS Director General, Yusuf Bichi, over the denial. The statement reads partly: “Recently, the personnel of the SSS have extended their acts of lawlessness by denying Onyendu access to visitors of his choice, in clear violation of a subsisting court order. “However, our erudite Lead Counsel – Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN has swung into action by commencing contempt proceedings against the Director General of the SSS to demand immediate compliance with all the Court Orders that the SSS is currently violating with impunity.” This latest twist in the ongoing legal battle between Nnamdi Kanu and the Nigerian government raises questions about the adherence to court orders and the rights of individuals in detention.
