A 39-year-old prisoner, Kabiru Oyedun, has been recaptured by the Lagos Police Command after escaping from the Ilesa Correctional Centre in Osun State.
Oyedun was one of seven inmates who broke free following the collapse of a wall at the prison.
He was apprehended in the Ayobo area of Alimosho Local Government Area.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Friday, stating that the inmate was tracked down around 5:30 pm.
The operation was conducted by officers assigned to the Ayobo Division, and it was a result of proactive security measures implemented to prevent criminal activities in the state.
"Kabiru Oyedun was tracked and arrested in Ayobo on May 21, 2025, at around 5:30 pm by officers from the Command's Ayobo Division.
This is largely attributed to the proactive measures taken by the Lagos State Police Command to deter criminal elements from entering the state," he noted.
Reports indicate that Oyedun will be transferred to the state correctional facility for onward movement to Osun State.
Prior to his arrest, the Nigerian Correctional Service had initiated a manhunt for the escaped inmates following heavy rainfall that damaged the prison's perimeter wall.
The NCoS also announced a cash reward of N5 million for information leading to the recapture of the seven fugitives.
"To encourage public assistance, the Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a reward of N5 million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates from the Medium Custodial Centre, Ilesha, Osun State," stated the NCoS.
