ABUJA, Nigeria - The federal government on Tuesday, inaugurated a new passport front office in Abuja tailored specifically for senior public officials.

During the event, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, highlighted that this office features specialized facilities aimed at ensuring a prompt and efficient passport application process.

He noted that this initiative was launched in response to the ongoing difficulties senior government officials faced in obtaining passports. "Previously, many high-ranking public servants found it necessary to set aside their official responsibilities and stand in long lines at regular passport offices," he mentioned.

"It is essential for us to enhance our service to the nation by improving support for those in leadership roles," he added.

The minister further explained that this initiative is part of a larger reform agenda spearheaded by the ministry.

"Upon our arrival, we discovered that the Ministry of Interior and the Nigerian Immigration Service lacked a dedicated passport facility for public officials. Today signifies a pivotal moment as we begin addressing that void and establishing a new standard for service delivery in our country," he remarked.

Tunji-Ojo also praised the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for its professionalism and expertise in implementation.

"This facility sets a new standard for excellence, significantly enhancing access, reducing wait times, and improving the overall quality of passport service delivery," the minister concluded.

The inauguration event was attended by Water Resources Minister Joseph Utsev, heads of all services within the ministry, and key stakeholders.
