At least five individuals have been brought before a mobile court in the Bolade area of Oshodi, Lagos State, for allegedly disposing of waste in restricted zones.
Rocketparrot News learnt on Tuesday that the suspects were apprehended by the Lagos Waste Management Authority's enforcement team.
The individuals identified as Sunday Chidiebere, Favour Odoh, Daniel Okunola, Michael Obi, and Amaka Abel were reportedly caught throwing refuse along the median on Ago Palace Way in the Okota region.
Confirming the arrests, the Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, posted on his official X account on Tuesday, stating that the suspects had been taken to court for legal action.
He wrote, “This morning, the @Lawma_gov enforcement team apprehended five offenders for waste dumping at Ago Palace Way, Okota. They have been taken to the Mobile Court at Bolade, Oshodi, for prosecution.”
These arrests are part of the state government's intensified crackdown on environmental law violators.
In a similar operation in May, 74 individuals were arrested in a single day for environmental violations in key locations across the Lekki area, including Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Oniru Beach, Lekki Phases 1 and 2, and the 1004 Estate. Wahab has emphasized the government’s dedication to upholding environmental regulations and ensuring that offenders face severe penalties.
