The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has awarded certificates of return to the 57 chairmen-elect and 376 councillor-elects following the conclusion of the council election in the state.
During the ceremony, the newly elected officials requested LASIEC to enhance their logistics to speed up the voting process in future elections throughout the state.
Notable chairmen-elect who received their certificates include Akinpelu Johnson from Alimosho Local Government, Jimoh Saliu, also known as ‘Alfa’ from Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area, Akeem ‘Dauda from Ikeja Local Government, Usman Akanbi Hamzat from Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, and Oluseye Jakande from Odi-olowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area.
While presenting the certificates on Wednesday, LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd), stated that the election process was credible, free, and fair across the state.
She remarked that the handover ceremony marked the conclusion of the electoral exercise conducted by the commission.
Okikiolu-Ighile emphasized that the ceremony symbolizes the essence of democratic culture, resulting from months of thorough planning, civic engagement, and institutional collaboration. “As the winners of the election collect their certificates of return, I extend my congratulations to all candidates who took part in the exercise and their supporters,” she noted.
“This event marks a significant milestone that signifies the end of one electoral cycle and the beginning of another, as the current chairman, vice-chairman, and councillors' tenure concludes on July 26, 2025.
With these certificates, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, formally recognizes the mandate bestowed upon you by the people from diverse communities,” added the chairman. In response after receiving his certificate, Sesan Olowa, the chairman-elect for Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, praised the electoral commission for executing a smooth voting process across the over 13,000 polling stations in the state.
