Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d'Or for a record eighth time, making him the most successful player in the history of the award. The 2023 Ballon d'Ors have been awarded to Lionel Messi and Aitana Bonmati, respectively. The Argentine and Inter Miami star took home the men's prize on Monday night, and the Spanish midfielder from Barcelona took home the women's prize.

The Ballon d'Or 2023 award was given based on the results of the 2022–23 season, which started on August 1, 2022, and ended on July 31, 2023. As expected, Lionel Messi took home the Ballon d'Or, making this his record eighth win in the category. Messi was named Player of the Tournament after leading Argentina to their first World Cup victory since 1986, during which he scored seven goals and assisted on three more.
