Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, narrowly escaped death after being involved in a vehicle accident yesterday evening, Sunday, July 20, 2025.
The incident, which caused a stir on social media, occurred on the Daura-Katsina Road.
A social media user known as White Nigerian, Mohammed Jammal, tweeted about the occurrence on Sunday evening.
“Reports suggest that Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State was in a car accident while traveling from Daura to Katsina.
He suffered a fracture and is now receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Daura. Fortunately, he has been stabilized.”
Many took to the comments to send their well wishes to the governor.
However, there was some confusion regarding the accuracy of the report, leading to rampant speculation. Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, subsequently issued a statement to clarify the situation.
According to Mohammed, the accident was minor and the governor’s condition was stable.
“Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda experienced a minor road accident this evening along the Daura – Katsina Road while performing his official duties for the citizens of Katsina State.”
“We are happy to confirm that the Governor is in good health and stable, having sustained no serious injuries.
“As a precaution, he is currently undergoing routine medical evaluation at a healthcare facility, attended to by qualified medical personnel.
“Governor Radda is in high spirits and is thankful to Almighty Allah for His protection, along with the citizens of Katsina and well-wishers for their prayers and concern.”
It remains uncertain if the governor was returning from the home of former President Muhammadu Buhari when the accident took place.
Since the recent passing of the late President a week prior, Radda has visited Daura multiple times.
Radda garnered attention during Buhari's funeral, where he was visibly emotional as the military honored Buhari shortly before his remains were laid to rest.
