RIVERS, Nigeria - Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the state, attributing his perseverance to the backing of the populace.

He encouraged those still affected by the recent political upheaval to set aside their grievances and unite towards the common objective of revitalizing Rivers State.

In spite of ongoing political issues, the governor expressed his determination to emerge stronger, more united, and results-oriented.

He articulated these sentiments in a personally signed statement commemorating what would have been the second anniversary of his leadership.

Fubara, who was inaugurated on May 29, 2023, entitles his statement: “Our Journey: Challenging but Progressive and Impactful.”

The message, disseminated Thursday morning, was shared with the press by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.

“Today marks exactly two years since I took the oath of office as your 7th democratically elected governor.

On May 29, 2023, I was sworn in following the clear and overwhelming mandate you granted me during the March 18, 2023 elections. I once again thank you for the trust, honor, and privilege to lead our cherished state,” he expressed.

Reflecting on the political landscape over the past two years, Fubara affirmed his dedication to the state. “In the past two years, our political environment has seen substantial changes.

Despite the turmoil, I have maintained my focus, driven by the oath I took and my solemn pledge to always prioritize Rivers State.

I committed to safeguarding and advancing our collective interests and ensuring you reap the benefits of democracy and good governance. That commitment is steadfast,” he stated.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by political crises, Fubara emphasized the progress achieved during his administration.

“Despite significant political hurdles that have occasionally slowed our momentum, these two years have not been devoid of meaningful advancement.

I take pride in the visible milestones we have reached, modest yet significant achievements in healthcare, education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, human capital development, and the inclusion of women in governance,” he noted.

He credited these successes to the support and resilience of the people of Rivers.

Fubara’s statement continued, “For your sacrifices, contributions, and roles in your various capacities, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. Your backing has strengthened my resolve to continue working towards peace, reconciliation, and forgiveness.”

The suspended governor stressed that unity and cooperation are essential for achieving transformative growth for the state, assuring residents that every decision made will prioritize their welfare and the state's lasting prosperity.

“As we contemplate the lessons learned over the past two years, I remain optimistic about what lies ahead. I anticipate collaborating closely with all of you to establish a state we can all take pride in a Rivers State that serves as a model for the rest of Nigeria,” he remarked.

Addressing those still burdened by the state’s political challenges, Fubara made an earnest appeal: “To those still carrying the weight of our recent political struggles, I urge you: let us turn the page, unite, and concentrate on our shared ambition of progress and togetherness. The moment to rebuild and elevate is now,” he concluded.
