MainOne, an Equinix Company, has successfully completed repairs on its submarine cable, following an outage that disrupted internet connectivity for a large number of users in Nigeria and other West African countries.
After eight weeks of extensive work, MainOne's managing director, Funke Opeke, confirmed the completion of the repairs in a statement on Monday.
The company had been providing restoration capacity and rerouting traffic to minimize the impact on customers during the outage.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) previously attributed the outage to damage to international undersea cables along the West African coastline, affecting service providers such as the West African Cable System, African Coast to Europe, SAT3, and MainOne.
Opeke expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the repair process, stating, "We are immensely grateful for the support and collaboration of our partners, the patience of our valued customers, and the unwavering commitment of our team during this outage. Working closely with regional partners, maintenance providers, vessel owners, and permitting authorities, MainOne completed the necessary repairs to its submarine cable system, thanks to the diligent efforts of all stakeholders and has resumed regular operations with the utmost integrity of its submarine cable."
