OGUN, Nigeria - The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended a 47-year-old man named Muraino Lasisi for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old girl in Abeokuta.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday by the command's spokesperson, Dyke Ogbonnaya.
He noted that officers of the corps arrested the suspect in the Oke-Sokori area of the state capital following a tip-off from a concerned neighbor.
“The officers apprehended the suspect at the scene where the crime reportedly took place,” Ogbonnaya stated. “After being arrested and during questioning, Lasisi admitted to the offence.”
Ogbonnaya added that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.
“Following a comprehensive investigation into the case, the command filed a request for the suspect to be remanded in the correctional service for 60 days while awaiting legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, which was approved,” he further mentioned.
Commandant Remilekun Ekundayo condemned the incident and pledged to ensure that justice is served.
“She expressed that this would serve as a deterrent to others considering similar actions,” Ogbonnaya quoted.
Ekundayo also reiterated the corps' dedication to safeguarding minors, warning that anyone engaging in such criminal behavior would face the full force of the law.
“I am committed to ensuring that the corps puts an end to all indecent acts involving minors and others throughout Ogun State, and those who think they can escape punishment for such crimes will certainly face the full consequences under the law,” she stated.
