A UK court has sentenced 21-year-old university student Ollie Holman to seven years in prison for participating in an online scam that defrauded unsuspecting victims of £100 million.
Holman, who pleaded guilty to selling kits with fake webpages designed to trick individuals and companies into providing personal and financial information, was sentenced after a seven-count charge was brought against him.
Prosecutor Sarah Jennings stated that Holman acted out of greed and significantly profited from his illegal activities.
She noted that he used the money to support his extravagant lifestyle, harming numerous individuals and businesses in the process.
During a search of his Canterbury University dormitory in October 2023, authorities discovered he had created and sold 1,052 kits, which contained webpages with scripts that enabled access to victims' bank account details, impacting 69 financial institutions, charities, and large companies in 24 countries.
“Even after his arrest, he continued using his Telegram channel to interact with customers until he was arrested again at his London home in May 2024,” the prosecutor reported.
