In anticipation of the upcoming peaceful protests scheduled for Thursday in celebration of Democracy Day, Dr. Ahmed Audi, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has instructed a prompt nationwide enhancement of security protocols to safeguard critical national infrastructure and preserve law and order.
The corps reported that reliable intelligence indicated potential peaceful demonstrations in several states, including “the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Delta, and Rivers,” among others.
In a statement released by the corps spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, Audi underlined the NSCDC’s primary responsibility of protecting national assets, lives, and public property, and mandated that personnel remain on high alert at all noted flashpoints, protest sites, recreational areas, and any likely rally locations.
The NSCDC leader assured that the corps would collaborate closely with other security agencies to assure thorough coverage and maintain public safety during the protests.
“Thus, you are ordered to ensure that your officers and personnel remain on high alert at all flashpoints, protest venues, public gatherings, recreational facilities, and rally assembly points.
“Our responsibility is to provide sufficient protection of Government facilities to prevent any disruption of law and order and vandalism orchestrated by malicious individuals who may seek to exploit peaceful protests to execute their criminal agendas,” the CG remarked.
He also issued a firm warning to young individuals against being swayed by those with ill intentions, stating that anyone found inciting violence or destruction would face arrest and prosecution.
