LAGOS, Nigeria - Chaos broke out in Shogunle, within the Oshodi Local Government Area of Lagos State, after a truck carrying containers lost control and crashed into a gas station on Saturday causing panic among local residents and drivers in the crowded area.
The collision led to a significant gas leak, with fumes billowing into the air and causing widespread alarm.
Residents near the facility at the Wheel Oil Filling Station on Agege motors road fled in large numbers, fearing an impending explosion, while drivers abandoned their cars to escape the threat.
Eyewitnesses reported that calls were made to the Lagos State Fire Service and other emergency personnel, but assistance reportedly arrived several hours later, increasing anxiety in the vicinity.
“The leak stopped on its own; the firefighters arrived too late, it seemed like they arrived after the party.
If not for the rain and severe weather, the leak could have resulted in an explosion,” said Dami, a local resident.
